Carlos Chandía Alarcón (born November 14, 1964 in Chillán, Chile) is an international FIFA referee since 2001. His career as a ref started in 1985 within the confines of amateur football in Chile. Since then he has been elected five times as the best referee in Chile.
He has officiated various international matches, examples include a final of Copa Libertadores, final of Copa Sudamericana, South American World Cup qualifiers. The highlight of his career was when elected to be a referee during the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
Recently, on September 5 2009, Chandia officiated the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers match between Peru and Uruguay. Prior to his expected reitrement, Chandia will officiate the rest of the 2010 World Cup Qualifiers matches assigned to him. Chandia will turn 45 on November and therefore will not meet the age requirement to officiate at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
His reputation as the best referee in Chile for many years and be elected into the top 30 referees for the IFFHS, I mean being appointed in May 2010 as head of the Referees Committee of his country, appointment made by Mr. Harold Mayne-Nicholls (Chairman of the ANFP 2007-2010).
Carlos Chandía kept his job as head of the arbitration department of Chile together a working group formed by former FIFA assistant referee Cristian Julio (Youth Football), the former referee Jorge Cruz Ascent (Teaching and 1B) and former Assistant Referee Upgrade Juan Reyes (Reviews).
During the period when he served as head of the institution, Carlos Chandía had to face a number of criticisms and problems due to their inexperience compared to similar charges and his particular way of conducting the arbitration body Chileno.
This caused much inconvenience to the Professional Footballers' Association of Chile (ANFP), then chaired by Mr. Sergio Jadue Jadue (2011). The Football Association of Chile was forced to pay more than 100 million Chilean due to the mismanagement that would have developed under the leadership of Mr. Carlos Chandía and its working group. The problems created by the ANFP will significantly be removed from office in April 2011, ending that its link with the refereeing of their country.
Currently holds the work of the International Referee Instructor for FIFA.
